What I'm Wearing

Did you know that no penguins live at the North Pole?? I feel like it's super confusing to always see Santa and Rudolph pictured with penguins. Maybe they were vacationing at the South Pole?  Maybe penguins get presents from Santa too? Maybe I'm the only one that's thought about this? Probably the latter.

I love an animal sweater.

J. Crew is having 30% select winter style right now and many items on sale just so happen to be things I have been wearing constantly.  Use discount SHOPNOW

I love the Majesty Peacoat. It fits me perfectly, it is great quality that will last more than one season, and it is toasty. I love a coat that looks slim, but really does it's job and keeps you warm. I have several colors. Navy and bone are the colors I wear the most, but I adore this turquoise one.

Bone color is extra on sale at $194.60. Great Deal for a coat you will have many seasons.

The pink High-Low  Crewneck Sweater is on sale for a steal at $48.65!!

{I'm wearing the color Heather Sorbet.  Much brighter in person.}

 Not included in the current sale, but so good that you should buy it anyway, is the Turner Pant. This pant looks great on every body type.

The Turner Pant is so versatile, universally flattering, and can work with many looks.  My friend, K, models her favorite looks below.

The Turner pant seems to run a little large so you might want to consider sizing down.

Here are two ways I've worn the Turner Pant recently.

The cream, V-neck  Cashmere sweater I'm wearing above is also on sale right now for $131.

I love the longer length of this sweater. They have changed the cut of this many times over the years. For me, it fits semi-tight through the arms and loose on the hips.

It's a perfect basic and I purchase a few every season when they go on sale.

Another J. Crew favorite  V-neck Cashmere sweater is included in sale

 Cashmere Boyfriend V-neck Sweater - $173.60

{neon orange color seen below purchased last year}

 Split back sweaters are a favorite of mine. I purchased this John and Jenn by LINE "Crimson Sweater" from revolve clothing.com, but it seems it has already sold out.  (Similar Here and below)

image.jpg

I also love the classic cut of these Citizen Emannuelle Slim bootcut jeans.  They elongate my legs and have a high enough rise to prevent any awkward love-handle action. They do tend to loosen some with wear. Might consider sizing down (I did not).

image.jpg

FOX DEN STYLE TIPS  *I  should note that I get almost ALL my pants hemmed.  I have had some questions about length for jeans. For reference, I am 5'2. I get all the ankle length pants hemmed to an inseam length of  27-28".   My full length pants hemmed to an inseam of 31-32".  Anthropologie does offer this jean in a petite.*

Here are some similar sweaters to the one above:

As predicted, this Zara sweater has become one I find myself constantly reaching for. If you haven't purchased something from my recommendations by now from Zara, then I am not sure if your fashion soul can be saved.  They are having sales starting Thanksgiving day.  Do it. :)

Your Phalanges Are Showing

 Selecting THE right pumpkin, or, in my case, THE right 10 pumpkins, is a very personal, highly analyzed decision.   I pace row after row of hopeful, orange orbs and after much (husband irritating) deliberation, I stand back and point at my subjects one by one as said irritated husband loads the chosen ones up.  I give the group a final once over just to make sure they look good together.

This year I have a good group, but not as many as I would like and I'm still missing my one jumbo, giant.   Stems are a must. A pumpkin without a stem is like a unicorn without a horn. Useless.  Time will tell if they will actually get carved or decorated this year.

If you follow my IG account, foxdenblog, you'll know about my obsession with these Mara and Mine slippers.  They're incredibly comfortable.  Plus, people feel bad for you that your feet are dead, but simultaneously are consumed with jealousy that your bones are gold.  gold bones = uber chic

Your phalanges are showing. Get it? Scandalous.

How cute are these Boco Baby leggings??!! A friend shared this brand with me and I adore them! There are several pattern options, customizable fonts, and colors for leggings and t-shirts. Definitely worth checking out!

This seems like a lifetime ago.

But, at the same time, I can't quite grasp how quickly he is developing. It seems that in the last month he is just spewing out all the things he's been soaking up like a sponge in his first 2 years of life.  He made me cry this past Sunday when his sweet little voice calls out to me as I was pulling out of the driveway "be carewwlful, momma!"  Then, last night, I was stopped at a stop sign at the end of our street trying to figure out the radio in a car I'm not use to driving, when I hear Huddy say, "here comes a car."  Me: "umm, yeah, baby."  H: "Here comes two cars and a big red truck."  Wait... are we having a conversation? Did you just say full sentences, identify colors, recognize your surroundings, AND count?!!!!!!?? All at once??  What a true blessing it is to be able to watch this tiny little person grow and LEARN.  I'm constantly amazed.

Speaking of amazing, I got these night lights that project halloween scenes on the wall or ceiling. spooky. Target.

Mr. Hudson still screams when I rinse out his shampoo, but he has no problem blasting his face with freezing hose water.

This baby has some kind of impressive ribcage. You'd never guess he was in the 90th percentile for weight.  97th percentile for height.  This combo makes his favorite game of jump on mommy feel more like abuse than toddler play.  He will probably be taller than his momma by the time he starts kindergarten.  It's so awkward to stand eye to eye with elementary age kids. Short girl probs.

If you've got an extra $700 to spend on a super cute cardigan, this is my pick. You're in luck though bc Calypso is having offering  25% with the code FRIENDS14.  MAN, I LOVE A DEAL. DON'T YOU?

While we were traveling in Virgin Gorda, we had limited WiFi access.  I really didn't miss it all that much, except late at night, when my brain magically starts to go into over drive.  I didn't realize how much I relied on my phone to help me through insomnia. It reminded me of this card my mom gave John.

Every night I had the same conversation with myself.  I wonder what (insert anyone) is up to? NO. I wonder what (insert  tropical illness, tropical storm, etc)? NOPE. Hey, you think (insert anything)? Let me look that, oh way, NO, NOPE, NOT GONNA KNOW. dammit.

In blogger news,

It's Breast Cancer Awareness month, as you all know.  Cathy Williamson is a breast cancer survivor and also happens to be the author of one of my favorite style blogs, The Middle Page.  I originally discovered her through Instagram (THEMIDDLEPAGEBLOG) and I was so moved by her story, her courage, and her ageless, timeless style.  My favorite series on her blog is "Chic at Every Age" where she and three other bloggers show how their  "decade" could wear a certain trend. I love this. Helps disprove the old thought that certain trends should only be worn by certain age women.  Style is ageless!  Cathy is passionate about spreading awareness of the type of cancer, Triple Negative Breast Cancer, she was diagnosed with and her latest Chic At Every Age post is showing her line of rainwear, which 25% of the proceeds from purchasing will go to the TNBC Foundation.  Check it out.

In celebrity news, how incredible does Blake Lively look??! There is just wayyy too much beauty going on in that photo for me to ever like her again.  #jealous

Game Day Fashion + other

This weekend my pledge sisters and I are doing our annual reunion tailgate.  We had a group of 12 girlfriends that were really close throughout college. Several years ago we decided to do an annual tailgate reunion as a way to keep up with each other.  We had to come up with a name for our tent, and  "Twelvegate" was born.  I look forward to it every year!

I love Auburn football, and I've been lucky enough to have been in the stadium for what will probably be some of the most infamous games in Auburn history.  Nothing quite like pulling out miraculous victories!!

When it comes to game day fashion I am all over the map. For most events I dress in whatever I am feeling the best in at that moment. Game day is no exception.

In the past,

I've gone with a casual blue jean look {Au vs Ole Miss 2011}, and this silk Tucker maxi dress {2011}

image.jpg

Last year I wore this neoprene Clover Canyon dress. I still love that dress.

And for one of those times where I look back and laugh at my outfit, there's this little mini skirt, turtleneck, heinous wrestling belt number..... my interview at Hooters was later in the day. (jokes.) No seriously, the belt is to support my back back from the weight of my top half.

This year I am going to be rocking' an orange and blue tiger print jumper, knee high boots, and my navy fringe jacket. Theme dressing in the best way!

image.jpg

Top Shop fringe jacket //Parker romper// Michael Michael Kors boots purchased last year. Similar ones here

Every year we have cups made for our tailgate. Auburn University is asking everyone to wear orange for the game against LSU. In honor of THE BEST SHOW EVER, and our school's wardrobe color suggestion, K made these bomb cups.

Speaking of Parker Rompers, I ordered this one from Revolveclothing.com and it is fantastic. Unfortunately, it's too small in the bust. damn boobs again.  Parker's beaded clothing is simply the best.

image.jpg
image.jpg

Now that it's October, Alabama might actually get some sweater weather.

I ordered from Zara.com for the first time. Really loving some of the sweaters I purchased. There are dozens of things on their website that I love. If you've never checked Zara out you should. Reasonably priced and free shipping and returns. These are just a few of the things I'm obsessing over.

I couldn't resist this oversized beauty in my favorite color.

( Clutch - Prada, Glitter pumps - Louboutin, Pants - Minnie Pant from J. Crew )

{yes, I am taking  outfit selfies in my bedroom. the air conditioning won over scenery today. whatevs. focus on the sweater!}

I love the back detail.

I adore this pastel color block sweater. So beautiful with mint, blush, and cream.  It has a relaxed fit. Cant wait to wear this one.

This pork recipe is a winner. A favorite among my Twelvegate girlfriends.  The pan sauce will make you want to lick the pan. Easy to cook. Delicious.

Cookware a little lacking at the beach house. Thanks to whomever bought this bread dish, and left it at the house. :)

I hit the lottery when it comes to parents.  Two of the most loving people you will ever meet. I hope Hudson will one day think of Mr. Fox and me the way I think of my parents.  My mom and dad celebrated their 42nd anniversary on September 23.  My dad makes my mom breakfast every morning. That could be the key to their long marriage.  And the fact that he likes to buy her jewelry.  It's probably the jewels not the toast. #winwin

image.jpg

My parents met at Auburn. My mom loves to tell the story on how she accidentally stood my dad up on their first date. He was to pick her up at her dorm early in the morning. She over slept. No cell phones, no way in the dorm, dad was out of luck!  When it comes to my love of sleeping, I get it from my momma!

This photo was taken at my mom's graduation from Auburn.

Loving Auburn is a family tradition.

For a little more random, this basket makes me laugh. I love to decorate for Halloween. I started pulling my things out this week.

I miss the beach the second I leave.

We celebrate our fifth anniversary this month.

Girl talk with a view.

I absolutely love it when I see people in their Fox Den style purchases! How great does D look in her  white poncho and B in her fab booties?!! LOOKING GOOD LADIES!

{That's B'sFantastic house all decorated for W's baby shower.}

Huddy is currently in to all things truck.  I got him a plastic tool set, and immediately regretted showing him how to use a hammer.

That's a whole lotta random for one post! Go to Zara and order some sweaters, cook some pork, and WAR EAGLE!!

Weekend Vibes - Fringe Benefits

Friday Fashion

When I first saw this jacket, I knew I had to have it. OBSESSED.  As luck would have it, Nordstrom had it on sale! Fringe is HOT for fall and I definitely think it's a trend worth trying. Fringe is showing up on everything from handbags, to shoes, to clothing so, If you think a fringe jacket might be too much of a commitment, try fringe in a smaller dose. Everyone should have fringe benefits.

What I'm Wearing

I found that I loved this jacket with several looks in my closet. Here are pics of the way I would wear it.

Of course, my favorite looks involve a half-tucked white tee!

I love the jacket paired with a white tee, mini and simple black pumps.  This tank by Feel the Peace is my new go-to for layering. It has a perfect drape to it. Also, I LOVE these black pumps by Alice and Olivia. They create such a flattering line for the leg and they are suede, which makes them easier on your feet. No blisters from stiff leather!

image.jpg

 {black suede pumps by Alice and Olivia // cross body chain bag purchased from Calypso St. Barth // Oversized gold watch by Michael Kors // gold skirt is Torn by Ronny Kobo (old)}

image.jpg
image.jpg
image.jpg
image.jpg

For a little edgier, daytime casual vibe, I chose to pair the jacket with the same tee, denim cut-offs, oversized clutch and booties.

image.jpg
image.jpg

Switch up the booties and put on a floppy felt hat...

image.jpg
image.jpg

{Items mentioned in previous posts -hat by ASOS // shorts by free people // necklace by Lizzie Fortunato}

image.jpg
image.jpg

{black booties by Rosegold- purchased a while ago from Gilt.com}

{Sorry for the grainy pics that follow. Apparently the humidity attacked my lens and I didn't realize it. Ain't no body got time for that.}

When the weather turns colder, I'll swap my shorts for jeans.

image.jpg

But probably my favorite is this jumper I found at TJ Maxx for $19!!  You can't beat that! I love the tribal vibe and its lightweight but full length style makes it perfect for a "wear now, wear later" addition to my closet.

image.jpg

Fox Den Style Tip: If you'll notice, I wear a lot of necklaces that are longer in length, and I am usually in a v-neck top.  This helps elongate my frame and keeps me from looking too boxy up top.  I call it the "head on boobie shelf" problem.  V-neck shirts are a buxom lady's friend.  Just ask Oprah - Have you ever seen her in anything but a v-neck? rarely.  Working in the same way as a v-neck, a long pendant necklace will visually stretch you out for a taller-appearing figure.  This is an especially good style trick when you have a square neck like this jumper.

image.jpg
image.jpg
image.jpg

{bag is old from Anthroplogie}

 It could also be styled several different ways. It's great to buy clothes that can change looks depending on your needs. Usually my looks are dictated by footwear requirements!

Looks great with flats (Joie), booties (Louboutin), platforms (Jessica Simpson)...

IMG_8862.jpg
image.jpg
image.jpg

For the last look, I paired the fringe with a plaid shirt and wide leg jeans.

image.jpg

Plaid is big for fall so put it on your "must try" list! This plaid shirt is by Rails and is the most comfortable thing I have ever put on my body! I will probably live in it this fall. The good news about this trend is that plaid shirts are every where. Literally everywhere. You can try this trend out at whatever price point you feel comfortable with!

*Fall Trends to Try*

Romper + Plaid + Fringe + Tribal Print + Black Bootie

Options that caught my eye:

1. Faux Wrap Jersey Romper - $23.99 // 2. Rayon Easy Romper - $119 // 3. Plaid tunic - $49 // 4. Suede Fringe half moon shoulder bag - $49 // 5.  Peg Leg Jumper - $305/ 6.  Santa Fe Fringe Jacket - $178 // 7. Mercie Bootie by Dv - $129 // 8. Knox Fringe Jacket - $220

 What I love about fashion is that it can speak volumes without every having to say a word. You can be whomever you want to be. You can dress according to your mood. You can try out a new look and, if it doesn't suit, take it off, and don't wear it again. No commitment required! I love the freedom of creativity in expressing yourself through fashion.  It's a judgmental world we live in, and everyone seems to want to share their negative opinions out loud. I vote we have more expression through fashion, and less talk!

Try out some trends this weekend and on in to the Fall!! If you're really brave, try them all at once!

This weekend I'll be wearing my Dr.Mom outfit. Mr.Hudson has been sick and we have had a lot of wardrobe changes, but not for the sake of fashion! There really is nothing quite like the feeling of puke running down in-between your boobs. Motherhood sometimes makes me feel like I have multiple personalities. Is the gal that's in her driveway looking like a greasy, hot mess, scrubbing down the barf covered highchair really the same girl that's taking fringe jacket and mini skirt outfit pics???! The answer is YES.  All mothers wear many "hats" and take on multiple roles. It's what we have to do. Quite frankly, we're good at it! So, my point is, don't get boxed in with your style. Have a fashion multiple personality. Switch it up. Try new things. Whether it's edgy, preppy, classic, or a 70's glam girl - HAVE FUN with your style!

Happy weekend!

Tie.Dye.For

Tie-dye is making a major comeback and I'm not mad about it!  The trend was hot back summer 2012 and it looks like it's not going anywhere. Today's tie-dye is not quite the same Greatful Dead look of the past. Thank goodness! The look is more hippie-chic than concert stoner. Sophisticated fabrics, limiting dye to one or two colors,  softer more abstract design, and gradient dye or ombré effects make this trend one you don't have to be in a psychedelic state to try!

Here is the trend seen on some of your favorite celebrities.

  I love how Miranda Kerr (top right) takes the look a bit edgier. Reese Witherspoon (bottom right) takes tie-dye in the opposite direction pairing neutral accessories with conservative and classic cuts.

As seen in above pics, tie-dye is surprisingly versatile. I always consider cost per wear and if I can make several outfits and occasions work, the item is a good choice.  Clothes that do swimsuit coverup and dinner out and airplane with Huddy, makes for a quicker pack, less laundry and a simplified day.  As I've mentioned before, I love clothes that have multiple (trippy) personalities!!

 Here are three of my favorite tie-dye looks currently in my closet.

image.jpg

In the first outfit,  tie-dye is a trendy update to my "uniform." Nothing complicated - tee, denim cut-offs, booties, and accessories. Half tuck my top, throw on a hat (duh), and I'm out the door!

Fox Den Fashion Tips:

Top is a small and is a generous, high low cut with a longer back.  I am on the shorter side and by tucking a front portion of my shirt, I can correct proportions and  prevent longer length tops from swallowing me up. This isn't as big of a problem for me when I am wearing pants, but you don't ever want your top longer than your shorts!  An off-set tuck also works as an easy, casual way to give you a more defined waist. No more shapeless sack effect!

Shorts are on sale for $46! Snag them! They fit really loosely and I sized down from my normal jean size.  Felt hat is just $38 bucks! Get you one and show me how you wear it!

Top by Tina+Jo purchased from Alys Shoppe // White cut-offs by Free People // Booties by Dolce Vita // Felt Hat by ASOS

Arm Party - There are no rules at an arm party. That's what makes it great! I always buy individual pieces I love then make up the stack as I go.  Some of my favorite will attend numerous parties. Some just come out on occasion. Classic metals always work.

The second tie-dye look can be worn as a swimsuit coverup or as a dress. Pair it with flats and simple accessories for a casual vibe or pile on the jewels, and step into heels for a night out.  I love this in the rich fuchsia and warm orange colorway. Pairs perfectly with warm gold accessories. It also comes in black and white. Can be purchased at the Alys Shoppe.

 I'm in love with the neckline and shoulder detailing of this dress; flattering on every shape!

The third tie-dye outfit has to be one of my favorite purchases this summer!!  This romper by Bless'ed are the Meek is tie-dye perfection.  The colors are blue and soft lavender and the cut is ultra flattering. If you think you can't pull of a romper, you're wrong! It might take a little searching, but even a long torso lady like myself can wear this look! I still stick to the old rule that if one part of your body is being shown off then the other half should be more modest. I love this voluminous caftan-inspiried top with the flowy shorts.  To keep things from feeling too airy, if you ya know what I mean, I wear this underneath. It's genius.

Can't you just feel my excitement to be wearing this romper?!!! It can make you do a rain dance too.

Cobalt Crush

Beach living means laid back style. Style that translates day to night, easily goes from playground to cafe; I need clothes that can do it all!!   For this outfit post, I'm thinking of the cobalt blue of the deep waters. I often get my color inspiration from nature, and what's more beautiful than the waters of the Gulf?! I love cobalt blue paired with crisp white, black, and fuschia accents. Top it off with a hat because it's no secret that I don't believe in washing my hair daily. Ain't no momma got time for that.

image.jpg

Bella Dahl tops are meant to be lived in. This brand is a staple in my closet.  I love the spilt back (for a quick glimpse of that bootay!) and flowy fit.  This easy wearing, lightweight top keeps you covered, but cool during the dog days of summer.

image.jpg
image.jpg
image.jpg

I purchased this top from Tulipano Boutique in Atlanta. I really enjoyed shopping there this past weekend.

Birkenstocks are back and just as chic as ever. I love this style, The Gizeh sandal,  and there are a gazillion color combinations to choose from.  In addition to the black, I have a pair in tobacco oiled leather, which is another versatile color.

image.jpg

Heidi and the Olsen twins have been photographed countless times in their Gizeh sandals. Warning: Just like you remember from the good ol' days, they did hurt my feet for about a week and a half of constant wearing.

I love these goodies also purchased in ATL this past weekend. The sea foam and lavender bead bracelets are from Tulipano boutique. The other accessories were found at J.Crew. I'm continuing to show love to the tassel trend.

These Art Deco inspired earrings are going to be ones I reach for over and over again. They have the perfect amount of movement and are lightweight. At just $38, everyone should have these in their jewel box.

For dinner out, trade the Birks for some heels and you're good to go!

Booties by Dolce Vita.

In other news, I make incredibly delicious daquiris. My specialty is a fresh peach daiquiri that, I can not lie, is AMAZEballs. They're (in my mind) world famous. It's your lucky day, Fox Den readers because I am going to gift you with my recipe. Get out your blenders!

Fox Den Daiquiri recipe (more of a loose guideline for what to throw in):

1/4 ish can of Bacardi limeade frozen concentrate

3ish Chilton County peaches (white nectarines work too)

I usually add a couple frozen strawberries or blueberries too (Daiquiri will no longer be peach colored, duh)

Bacardi Coconut Rum - the more the merrier

5-6 Mint leaves

Blend and top with cool whip.

You can thank me later.

Denim - Effortless Style

Effortless style that couldn't be easier to put together. Casual style that can take you anywhere. This outfit accomplishes both. Straw hat, tribal print sleeveless shirt, denim cutoffs and fringe booties will be what I reach for over and over again this summer!
