There will be jellies.

Starting to decorate for Christmas.  We picked out our tree.  I finally put halloween in the attic and Christmas cards are starting to arrive.  But, this is my first time decking the halls with a toddler. It might take me the whole month to get it all done.  We had a melt down over these tiny bottle bush trees.  Life is hard when you are told you can't whack the dog with the holiday decor.

image.jpg

Potted Christmas trees replace the ferns.

image.jpg

I ate my weight in casseroles, soufflés, and turkey over Thanksgiving.  Made three dishes this year in efforts to learn my mom's traditional dishes. They were pretty good, if I do say so myself! I'm working on perfecting my mushroom soufflé to share the recipe with y'all.  The flavor was mouth.watering.delicous. but it came out a little soupy.  I secretly didn't want my efforts to be too unforgettable because I don't want any body (Im talking to you mom) getting crazy ideas about me taking over  as head Thanksgiving chef.   Stay tuned.

image.jpg

After a full day of fun, food, and cousins, we headed to the beach.  Happy and Pepper tagged along.

image.jpg

Couldn't get enough of Huddy in his peeking bambi sweater and sweater leggings.

*update: 30% off all orders over $200 + free shipping at Oeuf right now*

This is my favorite bottled marinade/dipping sauce for pork tenderloin.  You should try it.   The steam bag quinoa and spinach isn't half bad either.

image.jpg

Our beach house interiors have been slow to come together, but soon enough we will be surrounded by beauties like these.  Can't wait.

image.jpg

This would look so great paired with brown boots and denim.

Prairie Check Coat = $89

I'm starting to gravitate towards any clothing that looks like a giant blanket.   Saw this in a store and it's divine. Can take you from daytime chic to couch.

Screen Shot 2014-12-02 at 11.22.29 PM.png

My memory is terrible.  I take a zillion pictures so that I always remember where I've been and what I've done.  Many times, my pictures remind me of exactly how I was feeling in the moment.  I love revisiting my travel adventures the most.  I'm happiest when I'm out seeing the world.  I started to keep a travel journal, but that got tedious.

So, what was I doing in November of 2011?? Glad you asked! Let's take a peek inside my travel diary, picture book style.

I was driving the PCH 1 with Mr. Fox and feeling like this...

Edge of the country excitement right there!

We stayed here (Post Ranch Inn)

So we could watch the sunset from here

But one could also sleep here

and still be able to eat breakfast here

then go for a mid day swim here

or an afternoon hike here

make sure to look out for this guy

Then you could drive a little further and enjoy a delicious meal at Nepenthe.

until you are comatose like this

No time to sleep though because exciting adventures are just up the road!

There will be seals

There will be jellies

You'll see copper bars

Beauty every where you look

When your husband could care less about golf, you only have to eat lunch here

then you get to move on to more exciting things like RODENTS and BIRDS.  oh joy.

say hello to my little friends

If you love me, you'll feed it in your lap.

He loves me.

Awesomely terrified. Gimme dat peanut.

I can't for the life of me remember why in the hells bells I picked that giant sperm thing up and started whipping it around. what is that?!!!

Hope your Thanksgiving was divine.

Go whip some thing strange, around yo head. (said in Ghost Busters Theme song style)

World with Octobers

Anne of Green Gables said it best:

image.jpg

October is our favorite month at the beach. The crowds are gone; the humidity has dropped and temperatures have too, but the water is still warm.  The seaweed has cleared out leaving the water crystal clear.

image.jpg

The way the sun hits the water this time of year makes the Gulf look like sheets of glittering glass.

image.jpg
image.jpg

Cool breezes move in at night, perfect for snuggling by a beachside fire. We love to watch football in our outdoor living area as the sun sets. All Auburn fans appreciate a spectacular skyline painted in our team colors. :)

image.jpg
image.jpg

The dragonflies swarm and masses of fluffy pink blooms of cotton candy grass decorate the landscape.

image.jpg
image.jpg

The sunset has moved back over the water and the sun drops below a glittering horizon in a fiery orange ball that paints the sky long after it has disappeared.

image.jpg
image.jpg
image.jpg

Mr. Hudson loves to point out the moon

image.jpg

If all that doesn't sound amazing enough, the monarch butterfly begins it's migration through the area.

image.jpg

It's the real life fairytale God created for all of us to enjoy.  Nature's beauty shows off it's magic on the Gulf Coast in October and we tried our hardest to soak it all up.

image.jpg

This baby loves shells.

image.jpg

Naturally, Mr. Hudson's first trip out of town was to the beach in October.

image.jpg

He was just a few weeks old then.

Two years later, here we are in the same spot.

image.jpg

High five, Zombie!

image.jpg

We decided to take Hudson Trick or Treating in Seaside this year.

image.jpg

Our test run of the outfit at home was not very promising. I worried that he would not actually wear his costume. Once he figured out he got candy when it was on, smooth sailing.

image.jpg

Hudson as Max from Where The Wild Things Are

image.jpg
image.jpg
image.jpg

He took to trick or treating like a boss. Got his sweet tooth from his daddy.

He announced boldly, "Trick or Treat, smell my feet, GIVE ME SOMETHING GOOD TO EAT! please."

image.jpg
image.jpg

Trick or Treating in Seaside was a success. And great fun!

Huddy was all tuckered out the next day. He and Hobbes settled in for some College football.

image.jpg
image.jpg

Saturday also happened to be a nice day for a wedding.  The renters next door pulled a genius move and decided to leave out the fact that they would be having their WEDDING during their stay. We got a front row view of the nuptials and the following reception at the pool. They were kind enough to invite us for a drink and to help with a sparkler send off for the bride and groom. Venue rental? nah. beach permit? nah.  Permission to take over the pool for two days? nah. Rebel marriage, I tell ya.

image.jpg
image.jpg

We eat lunch at George's at Alys Beach almost every.single.day. I never get sick of it.

image.jpg

Sucker fanatic is looking way too grown up these days.

image.jpg

Alabama and Florida have large populations of whitetail deer and sightings are common. Even so, seeing one in the middle of the afternoon is unusual. Huddy was ecstatic.

image.jpg

See ya later, October!  Hello, NOVEMBER!

image.jpg
image.jpg
image.jpg

Months of traveling and my house looks like a bomb went off.  Disaster.  Reality slaps me  out  of my October fairytale FAST. BOO. (pun intended)

Hope you all had a Happy and safe Halloween!

Do the right thing and put all your mini snickers in the freezer.  You won't regret it.

Your Phalanges Are Showing

Selecting THE right pumpkin, or, in my case, THE right 10 pumpkins, is a very personal, highly analyzed decision.   I pace row after row of hopeful, orange orbs and after much (husband irritating) deliberation, I stand back and point at my subjects one by one as said irritated husband loads the chosen ones up.  I give the group a final once over just to make sure they look good together.

This year I have a good group, but not as many as I would like and I'm still missing my one jumbo, giant.   Stems are a must. A pumpkin without a stem is like a unicorn without a horn. Useless.  Time will tell if they will actually get carved or decorated this year.

If you follow my IG account, foxdenblog, you'll know about my obsession with these Mara and Mine slippers.  They're incredibly comfortable.  Plus, people feel bad for you that your feet are dead, but simultaneously are consumed with jealousy that your bones are gold.  gold bones = uber chic

Your phalanges are showing. Get it? Scandalous.

image.jpg

How cute are these Boco Baby leggings??!! A friend shared this brand with me and I adore them! There are several pattern options, customizable fonts, and colors for leggings and t-shirts. Definitely worth checking out!

image.jpg
image.jpg

This seems like a lifetime ago.

But, at the same time, I can't quite grasp how quickly he is developing. It seems that in the last month he is just spewing out all the things he's been soaking up like a sponge in his first 2 years of life.  He made me cry this past Sunday when his sweet little voice calls out to me as I was pulling out of the driveway "be carewwlful, momma!"  Then, last night, I was stopped at a stop sign at the end of our street trying to figure out the radio in a car I'm not use to driving, when I hear Huddy say, "here comes a car."  Me: "umm, yeah, baby."  H: "Here comes two cars and a big red truck."  Wait... are we having a conversation? Did you just say full sentences, identify colors, recognize your surroundings, AND count?!!!!!!?? All at once??  What a true blessing it is to be able to watch this tiny little person grow and LEARN.  I'm constantly amazed.

Speaking of amazing, I got these night lights that project halloween scenes on the wall or ceiling. spooky. Target.

image.jpg

This is not a photoshop trick. The world's tiniest turtle that my parents found in their pool. I had no idea they were born that small!

image.jpg

Calling cards my friend K made for Mr. Hudson.

image.jpg

Grandmother always loved pumpkins. I keep her by them this time of year.

image.jpg

The LoveFeast Shop is my source for the best velvet pumpkins. Beautiful colors with real, uniquely shaped stems. Remember how I feel about stems! I love the white velvet ones. Velvet acorns are next on my list.

What I've been wearing-

My version of mom sweats.  Leopard sweatshirt is by Zoe Karssen.

I purchased it last year, but I found this one by Current/Elliot on Shopbop

Mr. Hudson still screams when I rinse out his shampoo, but he has no problem blasting his face with freezing hose water.

image.jpg
image.jpg

This baby has some kind of impressive ribcage. You'd never guess he was in the 90th percentile for weight.  97th percentile for height.  This combo makes his favorite game of jump on mommy feel more like abuse than toddler play.  He will probably be taller than his momma by the time he starts kindergarten.  It's so awkward to stand eye to eye with elementary age kids. Short girl probs.

image.jpg

If you've got an extra $700 to spend on a super cute cardigan, this is my pick. You're in luck though bc Calypso is having offering  25% with the code FRIENDS14.  MAN, I LOVE A DEAL. DON'T YOU?

If you're going to splurge at Calypso, I highly recommend their cashmere ponchos. The quality is excellent and the style is timeless.  They will last you season after season.

While we were traveling in Virgin Gorda, we had limited WiFi access.  I really didn't miss it all that much, except late at night, when my brain magically starts to go into over drive.  I didn't realize how much I relied on my phone to help me through insomnia. It reminded me of this card my mom gave John.

image.jpg

Every night I had the same conversation with myself.  I wonder what (insert anyone) is up to? NO. I wonder what (insert  tropical illness, tropical storm, etc)? NOPE. Hey, you think (insert anything)? Let me look that, oh way, NO, NOPE, NOT GONNA KNOW. dammit.

Oscar has always been a good sport about costumes.  He really loves capes.

image.jpg

I love my kitchen.

image.jpg

Mr. Hudson decided to brew some tea.  He likes his tea infused with rubber, and 100 grande bars.

In blogger news,

It's Breast Cancer Awareness month, as you all know.  Cathy Williamson is a breast cancer survivor and also happens to be the author of one of my favorite style blogs, The Middle Page.  I originally discovered her through Instagram (THEMIDDLEPAGEBLOG) and I was so moved by her story, her courage, and her ageless, timeless style.  My favorite series on her blog is "Chic at Every Age" where she and three other bloggers show how their  "decade" could wear a certain trend. I love this. Helps disprove the old thought that certain trends should only be worn by certain age women.  Style is ageless!  Cathy is passionate about spreading awareness of the type of cancer, Triple Negative Breast Cancer, she was diagnosed with and her latest Chic At Every Age post is showing her line of rainwear, which 25% of the proceeds from purchasing will go to the TNBC Foundation.  Check it out.

In celebrity news, how incredible does Blake Lively look??! There is just wayyy too much beauty going on in that photo for me to ever like her again.  #jealous

Little of This, Little of That

We've been here, we've been there, we've been busy!

Went to the beach for Mr. Fox's birthday.  It was crazy hot, and most of the visitors have gone back home now, which means we have the beach to ourselves! Fun evenings on beach with Huddy and (Oscar) Bean. Lots of digging and shell hunting.

image.jpg

We love taking the kayak out. Daddy swims Huddy, Bean, and me around and lets us ride the waves.  It's great fun!

image.jpg

Happy Birthday, my Love!!

image.jpg

We had the best Sunday brunch at The Red Bar and the delicious bloody mary's made my face blow up from tha flow (floor) up!! Sodium sensitivity does you ZERO good when bloody marys are being served. Too weak to resist. They had me at pickled green bean.

image.jpg

My giant baby was being real sweet, and was giving out kissing to mommy at lunch.  The best.

image.jpg

I really love this Mara Hoffaman dress. Wore it out one night with heels and wore it the next day with birks and a panama hat. love.  {Purchased from Ophelia Swimwear} Jewelry from Shalla Wista Studio. If you follow me on IG (foxdenblog), you'll know I love their designs!

image.jpg
image.jpg

I have recently realized I am a lot like Si from Duck Dynasty. What in the world would  a duck hunting, red neck and I have in common, you might ponder. Tea addiction. Obvi. I have unsweetened (unsouthern- I know) iced tea with lemon with me every.where.I.go. It could be a problem. It is an addiction. Clearly, all I'm missing is the beard and a signature cup (I already have the camo and gun). E + Si = soul sistas.

image.jpg
image.jpg

He even prefers my favorite color for his cup. He's my clone, I tell ya. Or, I'm his. Whatever you want to call it, just know we're the same.

Huddy is obsessed with swimming and being in water. Baths are spent on our bellies with lots of quick kicks!

image.jpg

Testing out fall outfits and color combos, and I am loving peach/blush with tan and grey-green.

image.jpg

Essie polish - School of hard rocks - will be the perfect transition color for my nails. It's the most amazing grey green. {necklace on sale at Anthropologie}

image.jpg

I drew my outfit inspiration from one of Huddy's stuffed quails. The quail is perfectly dressed for fall.

image.jpg

This baby loves to pretend to talk on the phone. He likes to call Pep, his granddaddy, the best. Requests are quite frequent.

image.jpg

Don't ever doubt my sandwich making skills.

Getting ready for game day with a boat ride to shell island with some friends.

His hair is so blonde!

image.jpg

Leopard sneaks are fab.

image.jpg

Spent the night out at a friend's house in Birmingham. Huddy didn't sleep so well, but I got the sweetest bed buddy as a result! Love that face.

image.jpg

In B'ham, I stayed at my friend K's house. K has the best style.  When she bought the house there was this giant mirrored wall. Some might see that as a dilemma, but not K. Bookcases up. Problem solved!

image.jpg
image.jpg

Need to see what size art you might want on your wall? This is how I do it! John thinks I'm totally crazy, but the blanket was the exact size I was needing to test! :)

First official day of Fall is September 22. After this last heat wave, I think I'm ready for cooler temps after all!

Lately

It's the first Wednesday in August.  July is over. I feel like summer just started! Are we really already talking football and tailgates and SWEATERS?! Not possible.

I know one day I'll be a slave to the school year calendar and it's ever tightening grip on summer break so, for now, I hang on to the idea of an endless summer, where sunshine is bright, the days are long, and my drinks are icey cold! Lawd knows I'm not ready to break out the depression light thing that showed up in my stocking last Christmas. Thanks for the subtle message, Santa. NOT

Here's what my endless summer has been looking like lately:

The Fox Den Blog is BORN!

Hello!! Welcome!

After months of wanting to start a blog, agonizing, and analyzing every detail, I have finally taken the plunge.  It's not exactly where I want it yet in terms of layout and design, but I figured I would just learn as I go. Practice makes perfect, right?! I have a new appreciation for all you bloggers out there. It can be tricky!

Naming my blog was the easy part. Setting it up, not so much. It is still a work in progress. I wanted to have a blog that was a quick and easy means to share information, stories, pictures, etc.  I am not a professional photographer and 95% of my pictures will be from my iPhone. I don't have gobs of time that doesn't involve a very busy toddler so most of my posts will be short and sweet.   I love sharing my finds and tips and I love to hear yours too! Please feel free to comment! Feedback, community, and sharing of knowledge are the best parts of having a blog. Nothing too serious will be discussed here.

Why "The Fox Den?" Well, I wanted to write a lifestyle blog that covered a variety of topics. Naturally, my favorite topics are centered around my home and my family.  A fox has become a sort of family mascot and our home is a treasured place of comfort, much like a fox den.

It all started years ago when I met this (older) handsome man.  I would only (lovingly) refer to him to my girlfriends as The Silver Fox. It makes me laugh to think of this now because the "older" man was not much older than I am now (one foot in the GRAVE, I tell you!) and his "silver" hair was a 100 times darker then. . .  Guess the current silver coloring is my fault!!  Ha.   Since then, he has become Mr. Fox, my husband, my baby daddy, my best friend.

Meet my husband, Mr. Fox.  Pretty foxy, huh?!

IMG_2112.jpg

I surprised Mr. Fox with a vintage brass fox door knocker for the first home we purchased as a married couple.  We spent months renovating and this Etsy find was a perfect addition to give a personal touch to our side entry.  Details like this make our house our home.  I look forward to sharing more from our renovation and interior design experience.

Needless to say, we were into foxes long before anyone ever knew (or cared) what a fox said!!

Now, let's meet the rest of the family!

Mr. Fox and I had our first child in September of 2012.  Meet Mr. Hudson.

He is now a busy, almost two-year-old, who brightens our world in every way.

Expect to see a lot of Mr. Hudson on The Fox Den.

Last, but not least, meet the fur kids.

Oscar, an American Cocker Spaniel, has been wild from day one. Mr.Fox gave him to me for my 25th birthday. He is fantastically patient with Hudson and allows his abusive sister, Milly, to share his bed. He's never full and likes to jump out of moving transportation.

Milly, our cat, is a stray that we found in the Costco parking lot. She's super smart, fantastic with Hudson, and sneak attacks the dog.  She's the perfect pet. Don't tell Oscar.
